Que des chats

Adored in ancient Egypt, hated in the Middle Ages: no-one can be indifferent. With their piercing eyes, his poses and movements, cats offer many emotions to those who pause to observe: love, violence, cruelty, gentleness, calm, excitement ... a complex creature, artful, mysterious, charming, forever independent, legendary. Resolutely opposed to straight lines, cats naturally espouse the harmony of curves.
This series of paintings, a synthesis of several years of research, seeks to recover simplicity, in the
spirit of the Ligne Claire: solid-color painting in 4 colors. A tribute to my grandmother who maintained
that "you do not choose a cat, the cat chooses you."
What appears simple for one person is not necessarily so for another, each has their own
interpretation, based on imagination, sensitivity, ambient light. One sees a colorful abstract form,
another sees a wholly figurative form, yet another the portrait of a cat.
Young children perceive it instantly. No surprise there. One must strive to find the eyes of a child, the
wonder, the all-seing look.
